The Lada Riva might have been new on the UK market in 1984, its origins were origins were firmly rooted in the 1960s. Known as the VAZ 2015 and 2107 in its home country, and Lada Nova in the rest of Europe, the Riva was a reskin of the original 1200-1600 series that had been on sale in the UK since the mid-1970s.

Dec 8, 2020 · I've inherited my father's old Lada Riva 1200. It's rusty and hasn't run for 14 years, but it was owned by him alone since new and the actual one on display at the Motor Show the year he bought it. It seems a pity to simply scrap it, but does it have any value? It has an unremarkable E-reg number plate. Is that of any value and …
FSO Cars 125P (1967 – 1991) Review | Honest John - Honest John …
In the UK, the 125P was sold at a bargain basement price - the large-bodied saloon and estate easily undercut its rival the Lada 1200/Riva, but compared with its Soviet rival, the 125P was crudely made and even more horrible to drive.
Lada Samara (1984 – 1996) Review | Honest John - Honest John …
The three or five-door hatchback was Lada’s first foray into front-wheel-drive, and a massive step forward from the old-fashioned Fiat 124-based Riva models. It came with Lada’s own range of OHC engines (an adventure itself in terms of parts availability today), but UK buyers were sadly denied the opportunity to buy the Mazda RX-7-style ...

Future Classic Friday: Rover CityRover | | Honest John
Nov 23, 2018 · I actually seen two grown men crying and begging the sales manager. The dealerships didn’t want them back so offered not much more than half the original price to take back a car. It was pitiful. I haven’t driven a new car as bad as a CityRover other than a Lada Riva, they drove like a poor imitation of an early eighties Micra.
A Grand Monday: Lada Samara | | Honest John - Honest John …
Jul 1, 2019 · The Samara was Lada’s attempt to modernise itself and compete with European hatchbacks, and was also the company’s first front-wheel-drive model. Engines were contemporary, too - belt-driven overhead cam units that were rough and ready, but also surprisingly sprightly. For a while, the Samara enjoyed reasonable success in the UK.

Mar 10, 2016 · Lada’s UK importer of the time wanted to cash in on their popularity. The idea was to prevent folk from buying secondhand and enduring “risky motoring”.
