Feb 18, 2025 · Because of the recommendations here, I decided to use Lucerne as our base instead of Basel. Day 1 - fly into Basel, take a train to Lucerne and sightsee. Day 2 - take a train from lucerne to Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen -> Lucerne Day 3 - lake cruise and mountain excursion in Lucerne -> Basel Day 4 - embark Rhine River cruise at Basel.

Feb 25, 2021 · We actually made this trip in 2014 and found it very easy. Took the train from Lucerne, we changed trains in Lugano where we stopped for a few hours for lunch. Then continued on to Como from Lugano. We walked from the train station in Como to the ferry stop (about 1/2 mile) we stopped for coffee and window shopping, its a pleasant walk.

Nov 10, 2015 · Lucerne is beautiful in and of itself and has much to offer. I stayed for 5 nights last September and day tripped to Mount Rigi via Weggis and Vitznau. Cruising to Rigi offers beautiful scenery. My vote is Lucerne.

Feb 6, 2024 · Three nights in Lucerne is great, but if that comes at the cost of reducing your time in Murren, then that’s another matter. I would go for two nights in Lucerne and five in Murren, particularly if you like to walk or hike. Lucerne is very nice, but Murren is heaven on earth.
Home base options - Interlaken, Lucerne, Grindelwald, other?
Jan 31, 2020 · Lucerne is a 2 hr. train ride from Interlaken, due to frequent stops. You can easily get from Interlaken to Zurich airport in 2.5 hrs because it runs more as an express. Lucerne is nice, my wife and I like it for a 2 day visit.
Lucerne, Interlaken, or Both Home Base 4 nights - Rick Steves
Jul 8, 2022 · Thanks everyone! We’ve decided on 2 nights in Wengen followed by 2 nights in Lucerne before making our way to Florence. @ gott0098 we’ve got almost identical trips planned! After 4 in Switzerland we’re doing 3 nights in Florence, 2 in Riomaggiore (Cinque Terre) and 2 in Varenna (Lake Como) before flying home from Milan.

Feb 26, 2025 · Our plan is to take the train to Lake Lucerne and stay Friday night and Saturday night. Sunday we go to Munich. Is it worth it to stay in Zurich the morning we land and then go later in the day to Lake Lucerne? Our second day in Lucerne is taking a tour of Mt Pilatus Cable Car, Cogwheel Train and Lake Cruise which is 5.5 hours.

Dec 27, 2019 · Lucerne is super cute. As a possible alternative, you could day trip to Mt Titlis. We did not do this, but it looks like a more manageable day trip and the summit is a few feet taller than Schilthorn. Mt Rigi is a nice short boat/train/cable ride from Lucerne, but it is much lower than the big peaks further into the Alps.
