It began with a few specials, then a movie and then two series. My Little Pony n’ Friends and My Little Pony Tales (It’s commonly mistaken to be G2). This is the longest lasting generation so far.

Gen 4 mlp was targeted to a demographic that wasn't dumb . Friendship is magic it is a reboot from the 80s it was supposed to be nostalgic and to empower young girls. When the audience wasn't the key demographic (little girls ages 5-8 NOT toddlers) and instead went to a much older audience, the show ran with it.
