In 1945, the Monon ordered four additional switchers, EMD NW2's, then in December increased that order to five. Also in December 1945 the Monon placed another order with EMD for 18 freight service F-3's.

Monon Railroad diesel locomotives remembered - Trains
Mar 1, 2023 · Monon Railroad diesel locomotives showed a variety of models from four builders. The Monon began dieselizing after World War II in 1946. It opted for EMD F3 units for mainline freight and passenger service and with EMD BL2s and Alco RS2s for locals. An A-B-A set of F3s started as EMD demonstrators.

Former-Monon NW2s
Apr 1, 2012 · Former-Monon NW2 #15 also went to L&N after the merger and was retired in 1977. It was later built into Southern Pacific slug #1013. Attached you will find two images of each locomotive in SP colors.

MON NW2 #13 - Monon RR
This Monon NW2 switcher was caught by K. C. Henkels as it sat in the Monon South Hammond Yard. Built by EMD in April of 1942 as the Monon began its dieselization, it was a hard working backbone in the Monon yards.
MON EMD NW2 #12 - Monon RR
Caught working the Lafayette yard is Monon NW2 #12. Built by EMD in April of 1942 as CIL #DS2, it was later renumbered CIL #12 and after the Monon reorganization, renumbered again as MON #12. The loco survived the merger with L&N as LN #2202 and even into the Seaboard System as SBD #2202.
