With more than one million recorded rock engravings or petroglyphs, Murujuga National Park contains the densest concentration of rock art of any area in the world. The petroglyphs of Murujuga range in age, with some dating back fifty thousand years. Access to some rock engraving sites within the park is restricted under Aboriginal lore and custom.
Murujuga National Park covers an area of 5134 hectares and is located on the Burrup Peninsula near Dampier. The area is home to one of the largest, densest and most diverse collections of rock art engravings in the world, some dating back 50,000 years.
