The Musk Ox Farm is a nonprofit organization dedicated to gentle musk ox husbandry, production of qiviut, and education to the public.

Qiviut (kiv'-ee-ute) is the soft down under-wool produced by musk oxen. Qiviut is one of the unique adaptations of musk oxen which makes it possible to survive the freezing arctic winters. Musk oxen do not migrate like caribou but they will range over a great swath of territory.

Qiviut (pronounced "kiv-ee-ute"), the downy-soft underwool from the Arctic musk ox, is shed naturally each year during the spring months. Eight times warmer than wool and extraordinarily lightweight, Qiviut is one of the finest natural fibers known to man.

Qiviut (pronounced “kiv-ee-ute”) is the warm, soft under-fur of the musk ox, the warmest softest wool known. The qiviut we offer here is handknitted into scarves and caps by the Eskimo women of the Oomingmak Musk Ox Producers’ Co-operative.

Qiviuq [sg] or qiviut [pl] (/ ˈkɪviət / KIV-ee-ət; Inuktitut syllabics: ᕿᕕᐅᖅ; Inuinnaqtun: qiviuq; [1] Inupiaq: qiviu or qiviuq[2] (sometimes spelled qiveut)) is the inner wool of the muskox. In Inuinnaqtun the same word can be used to refer any down such as the down feathers of birds. [1]

There are only a limited number of tanned musk ox skins available for sale at any time. The skins vary in size. One sample skin was 58" wide and 65" long on the hide side. When viewed from the fur side (i.e., the top), allow another 12-19" of hair extending out on all sides.

Qiviut is a rare, incredibly soft and light-weight fiber. The word qiviut describes the soft under wool of the Musk Ox or Oomingmak. There are several spellings for this word: kiviuk, qiviuk, qiviut, qiveut, to name a few.
