Is an SSD RAID 0 worth it? - [H]ard|Forum
Jan 30, 2020 · The only time I've used Raid-0 with SSDs is with lower capacity drives. In one case I got a bunch of older 40GB intel MLC SSDs. 40GB isn't really a useful capacity these days. I put 6 in raid-0 to make a single 240GB drive.
How much faster are 4 drives in raid 0 than 2 drives in Raid 0?
Aug 3, 2004 · And the reason why was that striping( RAID 0 ) is faster than a RAID 5 and the mirror (RAID 1) is just as safe - in their opinion. Plus, they are cheaper to implement. Most onboard 4 channel SATA RAID controllers will do 0+1.
RAID0 vs Single Drive - [H]ard|Forum
Jan 27, 2008 · i did the same research on raid 0 as i wanted to see if a 150gb raptor was the way to go to improve my gaming rig. it turns out that a lone raptor will perform better than 2 sata 7200 rpm drives in raid 0. and raiding raptors doesnt give …
Why is raid 0 so hated? - [H]ard|Forum
Jan 10, 2018 · If speed is important, and MMO/RPG games can very much benefit from much higher texture load rates raid 0 is a good idea. A good PCIE based raid controller will do much better then an on-board or any software raid solution.
SATA III SSD in RAID 0 vs. NVMe - [H]ard|Forum
Feb 13, 2015 · My initial thoughts were to use four SATA III SSD drives in RAID 0, but what I'm trying to contemplate (and asking for some discussion on) in this thread is whether it would be better to go the PCIe route (or M.2 or SATA Express) instead of using SATA III in RAID 0 (ignoring data volatility and boot time concerns--just overall performance of ...
One 512GB 970 Pro or 2x 250GB 970 Evo in RAID 0? - [H]ard|Forum
Oct 5, 2004 · I'm building on an ASUS Crosshair VII AMD board which has two M.2 slots with a direct connection to the CPU. This allows for insane bandwidth when pairing two NVMe drives in RAID 0. Would it generally be better to install 2x 250GB Samsung 970 Evo drives in RAID 0, or 1x 512 GB 970 Pro standalone? Price is about the same.
4x RAID 0 vs M.2 - [H]ard|Forum
Nov 9, 2015 · Regardless of the internal RAID of the SSD, having 4 drives in RAID 0 is still 4 times the likelihood of a failure compared to 1 drive. Also in non-shock environments, aka a desktop or server, SSDs have about the same failure rate as HDDs.
4K Video editing RAID 0 configuration What to do? - [H]ard|Forum
Jun 17, 2014 · With 4 x 4TB drives in RAID 0, I'd be surprised if the read speed couldn't keep up with my workflow. I'm just not sure if I should keep the budget low for the first build and buy Seagate 4TB or WD Black - the only difference I'd really notice would be reliability, I assume, even though the WB Black is faster in single drive configuration.
4 SSD raid 0 - worth it? - [H]ard|Forum
Jun 17, 2016 · I slowly added drives to my Raid 0 array (as they went on sale.) Over 3-4 on a MB controller and your not gaining anything though really. I like the peppiness and speed of things compared to one drive if only perceived by me. There is definite benefit in some things like Adobe, encoding, and even some games loads are a lot better (depends on ...
LSI 9260-8i RAID 5 Help Needed - [H]ard|Forum
Jun 9, 2011 · RAID 5 works much like RAID 0, except it interleaves a parity chunk for every (N-1) chunks written. Computing the parity (XOR) takes almost no time at all. RAID 5 should be close to RAID 0 speed for large sequential transfers (technically, 1 - 1/N of the RAID 0 speed).
