Basically, I have only experienced a couple of bad dove years. Unfortunately, both were in extended rain type weather patterns. Highline wires, runnng through a grain field or pass shooting a flyway around feeding or graveling areas, are usually the ticket during theses situations. Forget waterholes, heck dove can get water off the tree leaves.

Sep 4, 2022 · ^^^^YIKES^^^ It did here, all the corn that the combine missed and or dropped was on the ground and the dove were knocking it out. All this rain makes it look like they planted another crop of corn, no kernels for em, now they are looking for sunflowers and dove weed and aint much of them here. BUT the rain was much needed!!!!!

Aug 28, 2020 · I've scouted it for dove and hunted it for snipe last year. Wasn't enough dove for me to drive that distance, no better than what's available closer. I think dove just have much better places to go these days and are arriving later in the season. Snipe was pretty decent. Guess it will depend upon rain.

It's been raining in CENTX for the past 11 days and more is forecast for next week too. How does rain like this change the way the birds move? Do you make any adjustments on how or when you hunt? The place I hunt is outside of the Austin suburbs but not quite close enough to get a lot of whitewings. We see mourning dove mostly.

Sep 11, 2008 · I have a lease outside of Hillsboro and as the season progressed, there have been less and less birds. Hoping that this cold front and weather will push some new birds down my way. Will the birds be active immediately after the rain? I always see birds feed in town immediately following but I don't know about rural doves.

I have the new Franchi Affinity as well, shot a couple limits of dove with it after I got it, shoots well. I will run about 300-400 rounds of duck loads through it over the next few months and let everyone know how it holds up to the mud, water, sand, and being thrown in the bottom of the boat, hope it holds up.

Dove I have seen were passing over with some other place to be. Maybe if you found a flyway from roost on the WMA flying to adjacent private land fields or private land fields back to water on the WMA, or an evening hunt on a flyway of birds returning the WMA to roost you could have a good hunt, but it would take a lot of scouting to find those ...
