May 3, 2017 · Hey and thank you for answering! It's a Asrock AB350 Pro4. It has 2 M.2 slots, one of them being Nvme. The Nvme slot is already populated with an WD Black 500GB Nvme drive and my plan was the make that my OS drive by moving it to the other (non Nvme) slot and buying a 1TB Nvme SSD for my games and put it into the M.2 slot where the WD drive is right now.

There are three kinds of SSD that are related, thsoe that go in a PCIe slot and stand vertically off the MB (Intel 750 has a variation for that), those that connect to a M.2 connector, and generally lay flat against the MB, and those that connect via a U.2 cable and are not physically mounted on the MB.

Oct 9, 2017 · For cloning you need both connected of course but that shouldn't affect HDD. If you make a full backup oh HDD with something like Macrium Reflect free than you can omit HDD. I would suggest clean windows installation on SSD for few reasons, one of them being that SATA should be in AHCI mode and some cloning SW can't switch to it. MR can.

Sep 17, 2020 · Depending on the manufacturer, using the other M.2 slot usually results in losing usage of other ports or slots. For example, I had a B450 board that disabled the PCIe x4 slot if I used the other M.2 slot for anything. My current board, a B550, will disable at least two SATA ports if I use the secondary M.2 slot.
