The higher that number, the more suited the disk is for write intensive IO.

Mar 6, 2022 · RAID 5 should be long extinct by now. Back in 2012 it was all about the IOPS in terms of performance. Replacing the drives with 4 SSDs in RAID 10 would solve the issue. In fact replacing 2 with 2TB Samsung SSDs in RAID 1 would be sufficient. That being said. Upgrading a ten year old server is a bad idea.

This is barely noticeable in a RAID array, since the data can be pulled from the other arrays members, but they will cause data loss and/or corruption if you're using a single drive.

Dec 30, 2018 · Based on personal and work experience, I will agree on failure rates for ssd's versus conventional. (I'm up to 8 ssd's at home, the oldest is 6 and have had zero failures. I cannot say that about my conventional hard drives.) I would still consider RAID for SSD's if I needed large capacity with HA and replication or clustering was not an option.
