In 2008, a variant of the FN SCAR—the Heat Adaptive Modular Rifle (HAMR)—was one of four finalist rifles for the Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) competition. The IAR was a United States Marine Corps requirement for a lightweight automatic rifle for squad automatic rifle use. [31]

The FN Heat Adaptive Modular Rifle (HAMR) is a prototype Belgian-American squad automatic weapon concept derived from the SCAR. Designed in 2008, the weapon was one of four finalists of the Infantry Automatic Rifle program although it eventually lost out to the M27.[1]

This automatic rifle includes the clever IAR feature of firing from a closed bolt (increase accuracy) until it heats up to a certain temperature and transitions to a open bolt configuration (better air flow and cooling).

The HAMR IAR (formerly known as the SCAR HAMR) is a Belgian-American Light Machine Gun, derived from the SCAR-L, that is available in Phantom Forces. It is unlocked at rank 72 or can be purchased using credits.

The HAMR NGSW (heat-adaptive modular rifle) is a 6.8mm version from Federal Cartridge Company that competed in the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Program competition, losing to the XM5 (renamed XM7), a variant of the SIG MCX Spear.

The FN SCAR (SOCOM Combat Assault Rifle) is a rifle platform designed by FN Herstal for the US SOCOM. The rifle would be successful and later become the standard issue for Belgium, Portugal, Kenya and Mauritius.
