Design a simple serial-to-parallel data converter. The circuit reads data serially, adds a parity bit to it and then output it in parallel (8-bits) along with a strobe signal. The data format is as follows; 2 start bits (two 1s), a single stop bit (0) and the data packets (each is 7-bits long) are separated by a single 1 (continuation bit).

The SY10/100E445 are integrated 4-bit serial-to-parallel data converters. The devices are designed to operate for NRZ data rates of up to 2.5Gb/s. The chip generates a divide-by-4 and a divide-by-8 clock for both 4-bit conversion and a two-chip 8-bit conversion function.

A serial-to-parallel device accepts a series of timed pulses and latches them onto a parallel array of output pins as shown in figure 1. This lab uses a rather simple integrated circuit (IC) known as an 8-bit serial-in/parallel-out shift register (74HC595) as the serial-to-parallel device.

This project is the design of a serial-to-parallel converter that takes a serial input signal and a clock signal and creates an 8-bit parallel word and clock. Inputs: Din and clock_in. Outputs: D0-D7 and clock_out. If the serial input is 10Mbits/s then the parallel output is 1.25MWords/s.

In a serial transfer, the data is transferred in sequence one bit at a time (per clock period, if it is synchronous), whereas in a parallel transfer, all bits are transferred at the same time. A shift register can be used to do serial to parallel or parallel to serial transfer as depicted below.

This document provides instructions for a workshop involving digital logic circuits. Students are asked to complete tasks analyzing an arithmetic logic unit circuit, building a serial-to-parallel decoder, and designing a parallel-to-serial converter circuit.

It converts a serial 2400 baud signal into a parallel signal. The TxD line, pin 3, CTS line, pin 8 and the DSR line, pin 6, of the serial port are used - see diagram. The CTS and DSR signals enable handshaking to be implemented.
