At one time, the word "centenionalis" was thought to connote 1/100 but more recently, Latin linguists have noted that the construction of the word implies a multiple rather than a fraction.

This emperor, often called an usurper, was the last one who minted large bronze coins in significant quantities. Unlike Gallienus' post-260 sestertii, which are rare, those of Postumus minted in Trier, or Cologne, or Lyons - specialists are divided - are very common.

Aug 27, 2020 · Sestertii will aways fetch a multitude of the price of a Denarius or Antoninianus of the same Emperor in the same grade of conservation, just because so very few AE coins have survived centuries of circulation and in the ground intact. There are only a handful of true FDC Sestertii known today, compared to thousands of Denaii.

I was fortunate enough to find a few rare sestertii of Caracalla and Geta and as the years went on became more and more interested in the sestertii of the family of Septimius Severus.
