Frozen Core is a Boss Relic which can only be obtained by the Defect. It replaces Cracked Core and channels 1 Frost if you end your turn with empty Orb slots instead of channeling 1 Lightning at the start of combat.

At its most useful Core Surge can prevent a Biased Cog debuff giving you 4/5 focus throughout the entire fight which can pretty much carry a boss fight. At its least useful, shit it's still an artifact charge, to block things like vulnerable/frail from certain fights.

May 22, 2018 · I think Core Surge is interesting, but I feel like usually the Artifact is too situational to really make the card be considered Rare, since it's just 11 damage for 1 energy that exhausts otherwise.

Feb 4, 2020 · Cracked Core gives you 1 Lightning at the start of your turn. It’s one lightning at the start of combat, not your turn. An important distinction and one that increases the value of Frozen Core by comparison. Frozen Core is consistently useful throughout a battle whereas Cracked Core generates a single lightning and then becomes useless.
