4 days ago · I have made a Windows XP start button by simply taking screenshots of the three button states, and putting them together. I am below amateur at graphics editing and even though I set the background to "transparent" it still blocked out the unused portion as white.

Apr 2, 2025 · By default the horizontal width of the image determines the size of the button. You can override that by entering a custom size. Size 0 means automatic (i.e. use the image width) You can find many custom start button images in the Start buttons section of the Classic Shell forum. You can also find lots of Start buttons on other websites.

Mar 27, 2025 · I would like to use a diferant start icon button image. A google search shows only jpg when I right click and image to save. I have saved some this way, and changed the .jpg to .bmp. and then load to CS. I change the size to many different numbers, but all I can get is 1/3 to 1/2 image on the desktop. If I hover over the image I get the middle 1/3.

6 days ago · The Classic button is the grey rectangular Windows 2000 style button which shows a little icon to its left instead of an image. So the only difference from the above steps is that instead of a button image (.png or .bmp) , for the Classic button , you must set a button icon (.ico) .
