May 15, 2012 · I'm beginning to research a family heirloom 1893 Erfurt GEW91. I know there is an interest, so the SN is 9877. What I have not seen is a similar inlaid stock, but I'm a rookie at German rifles. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Sep 23, 2018 · It's a GEW 91 not a KAR 91. The KAR 88 & the GEW 91 look almost the same except for the stacking hook. Their intended use was different. The Kar 88 was used by German mounted troops such as Cavalry, Cuirassiers, Hussars, Dragoons, & etc.

Nov 29, 2021 · Here’s a recent pickup an 1891 dated CG Haenel Gew 91. All matching down to the screws and small parts. Like most unit marking is foot artillery. This is one of the nicer Gew 91s I’ve seen (Probably handled 6-7 of these over the years) and they seem much harder to find in this shape than the Kar88.
