USS Dyess (DD/DDR-880), a Gearing-class destroyer, was a ship of the United States Navy named for Aquilla James Dyess (1909–1944). Dyess was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for his leadership of his battalion of Marines in the Battle of Kwajalein.

The United States Ship, DYESS, a 2400 ton Gearing Class Destroyer, was named for Lieutenant Colonel Aquilla James Dyess, U.S. Marine Corps. Reserve. The ship was authorized by Congress on July 19, 1940 and first tasted salt water on January 26, 1945 when she slid sideways down the launch in Orange, Texas.
