The EMD GP38-2 is an American four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors, Electro-Motive Division. Part of the EMD Dash 2 line, the GP38-2 was an upgraded version of the earlier GP38. Power is provided by an EMD 645E 16-cylinder engine, which generates 2,000 horsepower (1.5 MW). [1]

UP GP38-2 1818 at Cotter, Arkansas on September 30, 1989, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in February 1972 (c/n 7344-41), this locomotive was owned by Helm Financial and leased to the Missouri Pacific as road number 898, renumbered to MP 2049 in 1974.

It became UP 2325, Class GP38-2, on October 30, 1987, and it was renumbered 825 on September 7, 2001. It was rebuilt as Class GP38N in April 2018. 829, Class GP38-2, was built in July 1981, #807052-10.
