The Renault FT (frequently referred to in post-World War I literature as the FT-17, FT17, or similar) is a French light tank that was among the most revolutionary and influential tank designs in history.

In 1941, as a result of Hitler's order to send armour to the Channel Islands, Field Marshal von Witzleben despatched twenty Renault FT-17/18 tanks to the garrison. The largest islands of Guernsey and Jersey received eight tanks each with four others being shipped to Alderney.
