At the end of 2020, Birkenhead Playcentre recorded a number of waiata Māori, and released their very own CD as a way to fundraise money for whānau Te Reo classes.

Below are the words to a number of waiata that our tamariki learn and sing at the centre. The waiata have been arranged alphabetically.

There once lived a maiden by the name of RONA. One night Rona went down to the river to fetch some water for a thirsty child. As Rona made her way down the pathway the moon disappeared behind a cloud, it became dark and Rona tripped and fell.
