Wengen hotels - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Oct 24, 2024 · Perhaps the word "incline" is really throwing you off. If you can walk up a long wheel chair ramp, then you can handle the inclines to the named hotels in Wengen. The hotel mentioned is only a 5 minute walk from the train. Everywhere in Wengen will have small inclines to some degree as it is in the mountains.
Wengen, Murren, Gimmelwald, Lauterbrunnen? - Rick Steves
Sep 7, 2022 · Wengen is north of those mountains, either in the shade of them, or looking at them in silhouette. Murren's other advantage over Wengen is it is a stop on the Schilthornbahn to the top of the Schilthorn. Wengen has a cable car to Mannlichen, but its 7,687 feet is dwarfed by Schilthorn's 9,740. Gimmelwald barely qualifies as a village.

Jun 23, 2017 · Wengen is small, so you can easily walk through town and check out restaurants that appeal to you. The last time we were in Wengen, we tried to eat cheaply since Switerland is expensive! (breakfast was provided at the hotel, lunch as picnic food from the small grocery store, and cheaper choices for dinner plus one nice meal).
Wengen vs Mürren - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Feb 2, 2024 · We stayed in Wengen last fall for a week and would happily go back. Views were gorgeous, car free, easy to get to other locations. We enjoyed our visit to Murren and it is also very nice; however, the construction during the week for the new cable car we found annoying. It was a very different town during the weekend on our second visit.
Wengen or Lauterbrunnen: Where to stay? - Rick Steves
May 18, 2007 · Wengen is perched up above the valley, in a position equivalent to the top of El Capitan if this were Yosemite (but not such a vertical cliff below). We always stay in Mürren, but I assume Wengen is similar---full of sporty folks there to enjoy the beauty of the mountains. I'll just put in one last pitch for Wengen, based on the car-free aspect.
Wengen, Lauterbrunnen or Murren? - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Nov 10, 2024 · Wengen vs Murren. It's like Coke vs Pepsi on this forum. Both will quench your thirst, but people are firm believers in their favorite brand. Just pick one to stay in and visit the other one while you are in the area. I am partial to Wengen as there are more dining alternatives and Wengen seems more compact to groceries and restaurants.
Wengen or Grindelwald - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Feb 1, 2022 · Wengen and Mürren have very different “vibes” to me, with Wengen feeling more resort-y, in an old-Europe style way. Many large, rather grand hotels with spa facilities. Mürren has a couple of those, but most hotels are more in the mountain chalet style, and the focus of the town is more on serious mountain sports like skiing, hiking, and ...
Murren Vs Wengen Vs Grindlewald? - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Apr 24, 2018 · Murren and Wengen are both high alpine villages not accessible via roads/vehicles. Grindelwald is in a valley accessible by cars and many many tour buses dropping loads of daytrippers. To me, that's enough of a reason to choose the car-free villages.
Wengen, Murren, or Lauterbrunnen - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Mar 7, 2012 · Wengen and Murren are both car free villages and are slightly smaller than Lauterbrunnen. Murren is the highest of the 3. You can look across the valley and down a little and see Wengen. Staying in Lauterbrunnen you can have a great view of Staubbach falls which can be nice. Wengen seems to me to be a little upscale from the other two villages.

Oct 20, 2020 · Wengen is a great location with great views, a couple of grocery stores, nice restaurants and a quick cable car ride to Mannlichen. From Mannlichen there are numerous hiking trails to enjoy with absolute magnificent views of the Eiger North Face.
