The Iwo Jima (LHD 7) is the seventh Wasp-class amphibious assault ship and the second ship in the U.S. Navy to bear that name. The contract to build her was awarded to Ingalls Shipbuilding on February 28, 1995, and her keel was laid down on December 12, 1997.
