May 23, 2018 · What amp do you have? KT88s can sound different depending on the amps design. I found Gold Lion KT88 to sound very good in my Primaluna Dialogue Premium versus other KT88s. The worst was Preferred Series from the Tube Store. This doesn't mean they sound bad in another amp so I'm not trashing the tube. It just had too much detail and energy for me.

Feb 27, 2004 · I have both SET amps. Both are custom made with high quality parts. The kt88 SET amp is using Shuguang Treasure 'Black bottle" kt88-z output tubes and NOS Raytheon 6sl7 "red base" driver tubes and Sovtek 5ar4 rec tube. This is a stereo amp. The circuit is from JE Labs. The 300b SET is in mono block form.

May 23, 2012 · They have exceptional mid range, very detailed Highs without edge and grain and the bottom end is quite capable especially with the right tubes. I am currently running Sophia Blue Bottle KT88 tubes as the ouput tubes, 12ax7s and 5R4U rectifier tubes. I was stunned at the difference the Sophia tubes made.

Jan 19, 2021 · Interesting, the manufacture designs an auto bias amp around the kt88 tube and then recommends the user to use 6550 tubes. Functionally they are nearly the same. No-one makes 6550s anymore; KT88s work in all the same places. But a 6550 will be a vintage tube and most vintage tubes are better than new production.

May 22, 2016 · I just ordered a KT88-based amp from Don Sachs in which he spec's the Shuguang KT88 Treasure tubes. It will put out 60-70wpc and Don feels it is a significant improvement on the upgraded HK-CII amp that has been near and dear to his heart for many years and which I had for a couple of years.

Feb 4, 2023 · OK 25-30 hours. As expected with any good KT88, they have really opened up. The other KT88 I have run as drivers in this amp is the now unobtanium Shuguang WEKT88, which was their best KT88 right before the factory shut down. The Shuguang WE series WE6SN7 and WEKT88 were very rich and full sounding.

May 20, 2019 · After swapping out a couple of KT88 brands I broke down and ordered Sophia Electric Blue Bottles. Had doubts about the bass having used them in a previous amp they sounded a bit thin there. Each amp takes 6 of these so mucho dinero laid out. The music has good weight, bass is all there in spades with clarity never experienced previously.
