Aug 12, 2018 · The Shodai Kitetsu is actually the Wado Ichimonji. The curse of the sword is what killed Kuina, who was the owner of the sword. Wado Ichimonji/Shodai Kitetsu was drawn to Zoro's unusual potential for strength. Kuina sensed this, which is why she breaks down in front of Zoro.

Jan 11, 2023 · I think Shodai's style is much more defensive and reactive than the average rikishi's. So, I'd really like to see him improve his defense even further. If you're on the defensive, you're going to get pushed to the rope a lot. On his good days Shodai finds ways to win at the rope but on his bad days he gets bullied and folds meekly.

Three explanations for Shodai's recent performance: Physical--I have heard that Shodai had an in-grown toe nail during the September basho. It may have affected his performance. Attitudinal--Some people speculate that Shodai deliberately coasts, that he gets the bare minimum number of wins necessary to stay at Ozeki (8 wins every other tournament).

Shodai got over promoted because of his ridiculously good year (yusho, two jun-yusho and five special prizes in five basho from November 2019 to September 2020) while the higher ranks were looking ragged due to injury, but I think staying in upper maegashira counts as a lot of success considering what your opposition looks like.

Aug 14, 2021 · How does the shodai hide its inherent quality as one of the 12 Supreme grade swords? Its cursiness? If so, why would it? Needs the other two for that 'magic' to be dispelled? That's gonna take a lot of exposition to properly lay out. Wasn't your original idea to see him return Wado to its resting place with Kuina? I dunno, that seems simpler.

Jul 14, 2023 · Shodai was asked "who do you want to face in Juryo?" and he responded "No one. I don't want to hit anyone if possible." My theory is that Shodai probably struggles with the pressures of Sumo and if this was happening in sports in the USA, it would be a "mental health" issue but I doubt that's kosher for sumo wrestlers to discuss.

Sep 20, 2019 · I understood it more like a "rating" system. Say like Saijo is sword rating 1-3. Yoru is a 1, Shodai 2-3, Enma 4. Making it a black sword improves the rating by a margin of how strong the users haki is. So Enma can jump 2 rating levels with Zoros strong haki and become a Saijo level sword. If Shodai becomes black, it will also be a 1 like Yoru.

Oct 6, 2023 · If anything, I could see Zoro vs Nasjuro as a major turning point where the Sandai Kitetsu is starting to chip against the Shodai Kitetsu, but Zoro manages to turn Sandai into a black blade surpassing the Shodai and beating Nasjuro. This is the point that Zoro would have gained the right to challenge Mihawk.

The Wado Ichimonji and Shodai Kitetsu are still graded for being powerful swords first, which then made their makers famous, not the reverse. It’d be like saying Lebron James gets talked about as the reigning GOAT just because he was extra famous, while ignoring that he was famous precisely because he was already really good at basketball.
