Students love the "range equation" in introductory physics, but it's really kind of silly. Here is a better way to calculate the maximum range of a projectile.
Well, cos(Ï€/2) = 0, so this gives a horizontal range of 0 meters. Makes sense. But the real question is: what angle for the maximum distance (for a given initial velocity).
