Hurricane Elsa was a destructive tropical cyclone that affected many countries along its path during the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season. It was the earliest-forming fifth named storm on record in the Atlantic Ocean, and the first hurricane of the season.

Elsa was the earliest 5th named storm on record as of the end of the 2021 hurricane season. Areas along the west coast of Florida experienced as much as 2 to 3 feet of storm surge, and 6 to 10 inches of rain fell across portions of southwest Florida.

Elsa briefly became a hurricane on July 2nd while tracking briskly WNW across the northern Caribbean. The center of Tropical Storm Elsa moved between Jamaica and Hispanola, then cut across central Cuba with a NW motion at a decreased forward speed on the 5th.

Jul 6, 2021 · As Elsa moved through the Caribbean, it became the first Atlantic storm of 2021 to strengthen into a Category-1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Elsa was also the easternmost hurricane recorded in the Main Development Region (MDR).

On the forecast track, Elsa will move across the Florida Straits tonight and pass near the Florida Keys early Tuesday. Elsa is then forecast to move near or over portions of the west coast of Florida by late Tuesday and continuing into Wednesday.
